For this project, I partnered with a classmate to design a window display for Shakedown Street, a local thrift shop. Our theme was “Rich Layers of Fall” which combined the elegance of Renaissance-inspired fashion with the warm, cozy tones of autumn. The goal was to create an eye-catching display that highlighted the store’s unique inventory and attracted customers. The Process Brainstorming & Planning: We started by brainstorming ideas for our theme and how we could bring it to life. We wanted to blend vintage pieces with modern styles, using warm colors and rich textures to create a fall atmosphere. Choosing Materials: We went through Shakedown Street’s inventory to find clothing and accessories that fit our theme. We picked items like vintage coats, denim, and accessories that felt both Renaissance-inspired and fall-appropriate. We also added props like crystals, candles, and fall decor to tie the display together. Setting Up the Display: We dressed mannequins in layered outfits that mixed modern and vintage styles. We carefully arranged props to make the display visually interesting and to draw people’s attention. Teamwork & Problem-Solving: Working with a partner was a big part of the project. We had to make sure our ideas worked together and solve challenges like balancing the visual weight of the display. Communication and teamwork helped us stay on track and finish the project smoothly. Finishing Touches: Once the display was finished, we stepped back to make adjustments and ensure everything looked cohesive. The store staff really liked the display, and we noticed more people stopping to look at the items in the window. This project gave me experience in visual merchandising, teamwork, and creative problem-solving. It was exciting to turn an idea into a real display that represented Shakedown Street’s unique vibe.
